Sunday School attendance was 69 at Seven Springs, with several arriving for preaching.

Jeannie Griffin wanted to thank her friends and family for being there for her during her time of need, especially for all of the flowers and cards she received. She extends special thanks to her husband Curtis and son Bobby and his girlfriend, Linda, for "being with me all the way," and Michelle Henderson for "making sure I am eating right and not doing too much ... love you sis." Finally, she would like to extend a very, very special thanks to everyone at Livingston County Hospital for being so good and so kind to her and her family. Last but not least, Jeannie says, "Dr. Barnes, you're the best. You have always been there when I was in need."

Happy birthday to McKenzie Noffsinger (Aug. 21) and Mason Stinnett (Aug. 26). Both turn 17. Also happy birthday to Susie Lott (Aug. 31).

If anyone has any photos or history of the Dycus house on the hill, the current owners, Jake and Jody Selph, are interested. Please e-mail matthewtpatton@yahoo.com.

The site allows users to view images of the actual signed registration cards. In the next few columns, we'll be printing some results of our searches for the Southern Crittenden County area. (For additional info about the persons listed here, e-mail matthewtpatton@yahoo.com).

This October's Crittenden County Genealogical Society meeting will be held in Dycusburg, and will include an overview of the town's history and a walking cemetery tour. If you have interesting stories about any of the graves there (except for Henry B. Bennett's), please contact Matthew T. Patton.

Last week, the annual joint meeting of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science was held at the Walter E. Southern Crittenden County News: July 31, 2008

By Michelle Henderson and Matthew T. Patton

Seems like a slow week for news overall. Everyone is enjoying a little nicer weather, so many have been seen leisurely walking, fishing and tending their gardens in this part of the county. Also, peaches recently arrived in this area from Missouri, and several are enjoying preparing a variety of peach dishes and jams.

The river level was quite low in the Cumberland last week. Seeing the exposed banks remind us that Mother Nature is a force we often take for granted.

Seven Springs has 67 in attendance for Sunday School.

As school starts Aug. 6 in Crittenden County, be reminded and aware that school buses will once again be on the roads.

If you made a donation pledge for the Dycusburg Community Group, please send your donation to: DCG, P.O. Box 112, Dycusburg, KY 42037.

Please share your news (birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, milestones) to michrehend@yahoo.com or matthewtpatton@yahoo.com.

Kert Suzuki Turley, son of Robert and Kyoko Turley, was born July 13, 2008 at 1:39 a.m. at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. He weighed 7 lbs., 3 oz., and was 20 inches long. Robert's family has roots in the area.

Seven Springs had 39 in attendance for Sunday school. Some speculate the blazing summer heat may have kept some at home. More arrived for the preaching services.

Rev. Rodney Travis will be preaching at the Mexico Baptist Church on Sunday, July 27. He is the son of the late Haskall Travis and Katherine Travis of the Caldwell Springs community.

Debbie Holsapple is still recovering from surgery. We wish her well!

Happy 18th birthday to Jordan Wadsworth (July 30).

Our sympathies to the family of Betty Jean (Kirk) Owen, 78, of Frances, who passed away last week. She was a member of Seven Springs.

We accidentally misspelled Josh, Jacob and Star Mahn's last name in the last issue. In the July 10 issue, we also misstated that Rebecca Wilhoit was in town on Saturday. She was here on Friday, July 4. We regret the errors.

Bingo is held every Thursday and Saturday night at Riverside Café in Dycusburg, starting at 7 p.m. Proceeds are donated to the fireworks fund for July 4 celebrations.

Recipes have been pouring in for the Dycusburg cookbook we plan to have published in the fall. Please submit your recipes in the categories of "Appetizers and Beverages;" "Soups and Salads;" "Vegetables and Side Dishes;" "Main Dishes;" "Breads and Rolls;" "Desserts;" and "Cookies and Candy." You can submit them by e-mailing dycusburg@yahoo.com or mailing them to DCG, P.O. Box 112, Dycusburg, KY 42037.

The Dycusburg Community Group (DCG) is also seeking food and other vendors for the Dycusburg Day festival (Oct. 11). More information about booth fees will be printed soon.

The next meeting of the DCG will be 6 p.m., Friday, July 25 at the home of Michelle Henderson. Those interested in helping plan for Dycusburg Day are encouraged to attend.
