I want to take a few moments away from our regularly scheduled programming, so to speak, to make a point to say that I certainly do not feel the ice storm was God's punishment on a sinful Crittenden County.
Some will argue that the ice storm in January, Sept. 11, Hurricane Katrina and even physical handicaps are of God's punishment.
Those of us who were raised in a Christian environment who learned about a God of love will know that this argument is wrong ... and shallow. It's an argument from those who truly do not know God. Again: The winter storm of 2009 was NOT a punishment from God Almighty. I was raised to believe there are false prophets of Christianity, and I believe sometimes those false prophets give Christianity a very, very bad name.

It is hard to believe that people would really believe that a wind storm and an ice storm are the wrath of God, but I guess there are truly ignorant people out there!
I chose not to think of it as a "punishment" but as a wake-up call from the good Lord to remind us of all of the blessings that we take for granted. I know that I have become a much more grateful person since the ice storm, and I think that's a good thing! I think less about what I'd like to buy next and more about how good that HOT meal and bath were! It's the little things that make life wonderful. My God is not wrathful, but he will remind me and help me corrects selfishness if needed....

Thank you, Natalie, for your comment. I agree -- my God is not wrathful. In fact, I don't think God punishes us at all.
This was in reference to "Rev." Lucy Tedrick's column in a recent issue of The Crittenden Press.
I left Marion several years ago and was unaware of Lucy until her columns started appearing in the Press. I have been told that I should ignor her remarks as many in the county know that she is not a preacher and is one that always wants to "grandstand". The statements that she makes are at times difficult to understand and frankly many don't make sense not to mention that many don't hold an ounce of truth. How can a person like that contend that God is punishing the citizens of Crittenden County through an ice storm. Was GOD also mad at Livingston County, McCracken County and dozens of other counties? No Lucy---once again you have it all wrong. Keep up the writing though---as the Crittenden Press does not have a comic secion and one can always read your column!!
